Dominican Republic President Leonel Fernández named Francisco Javier Garcia the destination’s new minister of tourism. Garcia successfully led the Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce from 2004 to 2007 before assisting Fernandez with his re-election campaign. He also served as general administrator for the National Lottery, president of the Dominican Petroleum Refinery and executive director of the Dominican Port Authority.
