USS Bataan to Dock In New York

The Hudson River is going to get a little crowded on the West Side of Manhattan this month as the USS Bataan visits New York City. It will be the first time that the massive ship comes to the Big Apple.

The 840-foot active duty aircraft carrier, which was used in the Iraq War and also provided humanitarian relief to victims of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, will dock at Pier 88, near 48th Street and 12th Avenue, from November 5–12. The docking will be part of the celebration of the reopening of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum.

After a two-year renovation project, the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum opens its doors to the public Saturday, November 8 with a grand opening weekend celebration. New exhibit installations, interactive exhibits, restored aircraft, a new public park-like pier, and a new paint job for the former USS Intrepid are a few of the brand new features at the museum. To celebrate the reopening and the Intrepid's return, there will be a fireworks show the evening of November 8, and the first 1,000 visitors will receive a commemorative coin.
