New York Water Taxi Acquires Circle Line Harbor Cruise

According to a recent report by Crains New York, the six-year-old New York Water Taxi company has announced that it is acquiring Circle Line Harbor Cruise. Also known as Circle Line Downtown, the company is selling the rights to its name and two sightseeing boats as well as two leases in the South Street Seaport and Brooklyn Navy Yard. The sale will be completed next month.

According to the report, the company hit a snag last year when it lost the government contract to ferry passengers to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. The company has plans to sell seven of its boats to Statue Cruises, the San Francisco-based company that won the government contract. After two years of disagreement over the price of the boats, a price has been agreed upon and there is a tentative closing date.

Circle Line Sightseeing, a separate company, will continue to operate independently.
